Humble and Strong Men

By Henry Cooke

The Old Testament promised blessing to those who were humble.

  • Wisdom (Proverbs 11:2)
  • Good tidings (Isaiah 61:11)
  • Honor (Proverbs 15:33)

The experience of many Kings demonstrated that those who humble themselves before God will be exalted (1 Kings 21:29; 2 Kings 22:14; 2 Chronicles 32:26).

The very path way to revival in our hearts is the road of humility (2 Chronicles 7:14).

In the New Testament the life of Jesus provides the best example of what it means to have humility (Matthew 11:29; 1 Corinthians 4:21; Philippians 2:1-11) . Jesus often preached and taught the people about the need for humility (Matthew 23:12; Mark 9:25; Luke 14:11; 18:14) . Jesus would urge those who desired to live by kingdom standards to practice humility (Matthew 18:1; 23:12)

When a person has a humble heart, they will not look down on other people because fault or shortcomings (Matthew 18:4, Luke 14:11) . The New Testament show us that humility is closely connected with the quality of meekness (Matthew 5:5) . The word of God is clear about the need for a humble heart and how it bring us closer to God and strengthens us spiritually.
