The Characteristic of Holiness (1 Corinthians 3:17; 2 Corinthians 6:16)

In the Old Testament God had holy places and the people would call these places Holy because God dwelled there. When Jacob fled to Haran (Genesis 28:16-17) where He had a dream and when He awakened He said the Lord is surely is in this place. In the days God didn’t dwell in men, but today we are blessed because God lives in us and we are called a Holy Place.

Holy has four distinct meaning:

  1. To be set apart, we are set apart from the world because God abides in us (John 14:4-7)
  2. To be holy means to be perfect, to be spiritually pure, (transcendent) referring to God Himself evoking adoration and reverence this applies primarily to God, but secondarily to the saints. (Leviticus 20:7: 1 Corinthians 3:17)
  3. Holy also means someone who evokes reverential awe and respect for God a frightening kind of awe that is beyond understanding. This applies to God only; it is the primary meaning of holy. (Isaiah 6:3; Revelation 4:8)

When God’s holiness is working in us it is like fire. Fire is the symbol of God’s holy power (Exodus 3:2-5) . Shadrach, Meshach and Abendego walked in The midst of the fiery furnace but they didn’t burn up because holy fire protected them from natural fire. Man’s fire cannot compete against God’s holy fire (Deuteronomy 32:21-22) . Jealousy, wrath, remoteness, cleanliness, glory and majesty are related to God’s holy fire. He is unsearchable, incomparable, great, wonderful and exalted. His name is holy. God is an awesome God, He is a consuming fire (Deuteronomy 5:22-26; 9:3-10; 10:4; Judges 6:20-21 2 Samuel 22:7-16)

Some times the fire from God is not so sweet. Fire from God is used to burn away sin in our hearts (Malachi 3:1-3) He is refining us. He will burn away everything in the heart that is not like Him. He purifies us so we can offer back to Him an offering or righteousness. God is truly an awesome God, He is holy and we are holy in Him. He has established us holy to Himself; He promised us if we keep His commandments and walk in His ways (He never leaves us without a choice) we shall be blessed with abundance, a surplus of prosperity and Health. He said that He would bless the very ground we walk on, when we become God’s holy people . (Deuteronomy 28:9-11) .

Don’t you love Him!
